Paul Barra's novel "Full of Eyes: a Rebel Bishop mystery" is now available on Smashwords. The book has also been published @ Borrowbox, Baker & Taylor, Bibliotheca, Overdrive, Scribd, Vivlio, Kobo, Tolino, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Hoopla and Palace Marketplace.
FULL OF EYES is the reissued version of the now out of print DEATH OF A SACRISTAN, and features the real-life third bishop of Charleston, Patrick N. Lynch, who solves a murder in the cathedral as war edges ever closer to the Holy City. He was the Catholic bishop of both Carolinas during the Civil War, a slaveholder, a polymath, a famed anti-abolitionist and a compassionate pastor. Lynch was dubbed The Rebel Bishop by Horace Greeley in the New York Herald. He and his times are accurately portrayed in this action-packed and suspenseful mystery.
The framework is a murder and the race to find the killer before war engulfs the South, but the theme of the book is slavery: how Bishop Lynch defended it and how the protagonist, his aide, was affected by his compelling arguments. It dips into the mind of a good man invested in an evil cause, although the Vatican did not seem to hold that against him. Lynch reigned until long after the Civil War .
The FULL OF EYES ebook is priced at $2.99.
